Professor George Wajackoyah questioned the continued presence of Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat in office following the torture and death of influencer Albert Ojwang, which occurred under his watch.

He emphasized that the country has highly qualified and experienced police officers, including those with PhDs and long-standing service records from the Kenyatta and Kibaki eras, who have upheld professionalism and integrity.

Wajackoyah expressed concern that Lagat’s leadership has become a source of pain for Kenyans and raised doubts about his suitability for the position.

He argued that the DIG has failed in his responsibility to protect citizens and instead allowed human rights violations to happen under his leadership.

In his address, Wajackoyah made it clear that such incidents cannot be tolerated in a democratic society and demanded immediate action. He called on the authorities to replace Lagat without delay and restore public trust in the police service.

The professor maintained that accountability must be enforced, regardless of rank or title, and that the police service should be led by individuals with a clean record and a deep commitment to justice and rule of law.

His comments come amid growing public outrage over police brutality and calls for reforms in the security sector.
