His father was once one of the political heavyweights in the country having been in Parliament for almost three decades.

During his political heydays, former Tinderet MP Henry Kiprono Kosgey, was a political colossus. He served as MP for 28 years and cabinet minister for over 20 years.

The now 79-year old Kosgey has retired from elective politics after almost four decades in the game. And now, it is the turn of his children to pick up from where he had left.

The former Tinderet MP was also the founding ODM party chairman, the position he held for almost one decade until 2014.

As the clock ticks towards the 2027 general election, the son of the former cabinet minister has set his eyes on the Nandi County Governor seat.

Allan Kosgey, who is currently serving as the board chairperson of the Kenya Industrial Property Institute, is keen to succeed the current Nandi County Governor Stephen Sang.

Sang is not eligible to run for another term after serving since 2017.

But it will not be an easy ousting for the young Kosgey, a lawyer by profession. He faces stiff opposition from Tinderet MP Julius Melly and Nandi County Women Representative Cynthia Muge.

Besides the trio of Kosgey, Muge and Melly, former Governor Dr Cleophas Lagat is also keen to recapture the seat he held until 2017.

Riding on his father’s big political name, Allan Kosgey could be a front runner. But in the world of politics where your family name no longer matters, the former minister’s son has a mountain to climb.
