President William Ruto stepped out of State House on Thursday to inspect a major government development project in Nairobi despite heightened security and road closures occasioned by the June 25 anniversary demonstrations.
The Head of State proceeded with his official schedule as parts of the capital experienced restricted movement following the deployment of security personnel to manage the protests. The visit appeared aimed at underscoring the government’s commitment to ongoing development projects despite the tense atmosphere in the city.
President Ruto was accompanied by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga, and several other senior government officials during the inspection tour.
The delegation visited the construction site of the Bomas International Convention Complex (BICC), a flagship project expected to strengthen Nairobi’s position as a regional destination for international conferences and major events.
Photos shared from the visit showed only a small number of workers present at the construction site. The normally busy project appeared relatively quiet, with activity seemingly reduced as security operations and movement restrictions affected parts of the city.
The workers who were present had an opportunity to interact with the President as he inspected the progress of the project. Ruto addressed them briefly, commending their efforts and emphasizing the importance of completing the facility as part of the government’s broader infrastructure agenda.
The visit took place against the backdrop of heightened security across Nairobi, where police had mounted roadblocks and deployed officers in various locations during the June 25 commemorations.
Despite the challenges posed by the security situation, the President continued with his inspection programme, signaling that government operations and key development initiatives would proceed as planned.
The contrast between the relatively calm construction site and the heightened security measures across the city highlighted the unusual circumstances under which the inspection was conducted.
The government’s decision to proceed with the visit was viewed as an indication that major national projects remain a priority even during periods of political tension.
