The bodies of businessman Stephen Ngei Musyoka and his wife, Giannaphina Mumbua Ngei, were on Friday airlifted to their rural home in Makindu, Makueni County, ahead of their burial, according to family updates and reports shared by local media.
The couple died in a tragic road accident on June 20 along the Nairobi–Mombasa Highway at the Masimba area near Kiboko in Makueni County.
According to police reports cited by local media, the pickup truck they were travelling in collided head-on with a trailer, killing both of them at the scene.
A company employee who was travelling with them survived with injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
According to reports, funeral arrangements were scheduled for Friday, June 26, with family members, friends, business associates and leaders expected to attend the burial in Makindu.
Social media posts from family supporters and local news pages indicated that the bodies were being airlifted to the family’s rural home before the final rites.
Stephen Ngei was widely known as the founder and proprietor of Makindu Motors Limited. According to condolence messages issued by political leaders, he rose from humble beginnings to build one of Kenya’s leading motorcycle and vehicle assembly businesses, creating employment opportunities and supporting community development in the Ukambani region.
Among those who mourned the couple was Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who described their deaths as a significant loss to the family, the business community and the country. In his message, Kalonzo praised Ngei’s entrepreneurial journey and extended condolences to the bereaved family, praying for strength during the difficult period.
A video circulating online shows preparations for the burial and the airlifting of the bodies to Makindu. While the footage has been widely shared on social media, the burial schedule has also been confirmed through multiple local reports and family announcements.
The burial is expected to bring together relatives, friends, community members and leaders to pay their final respects to the couple, whose deaths have attracted widespread condolences across Kenya.
