Bob Njagi

A Kajiado court has granted police permission to detain activist Bob Njagi for seven more days as detectives complete investigations into allegations of incitement linked to the Gen Z memorial protests.

Senior Principal Magistrate S. Mwangi of the Kajiado Law Courts rejected a police request to hold Njagi for 14 days, instead ordering that he remain in custody until July 2, 2026.

The court also directed that two mobile phones recovered from the activist be handed over to detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for forensic examination.

Njagi will remain at Isinya Police Station before appearing in court next Wednesday, when he is expected to take a plea.

The activist was arrested early Wednesday over allegations that he circulated social media videos that allegedly incited young people to participate in the Gen Z memorial protests held in Kitengela.

Meanwhile, more than 100 other suspects arrested during Wednesday’s and Thursday’s police operations, including activist Aslam Longton, are expected to be arraigned before the Kajiado Law Courts on Friday.

The suspects were arrested during a two-day police crackdown targeting demonstrators marking the anniversary of the 2024/2025 Gen Z protests. Police accuse them of participating in unlawful assemblies in Kitengela.

They are expected to face various charges, including unlawful assembly.
