A vocal ODM MP is reportedly under growing pressure to abandon the party and join Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi movement, amid claims that the outfit is rapidly gaining ground in his home county.
The lawmaker is alleged to be weighing his political options as the movement’s growing influence makes his continued opposition increasingly difficult.
The claims were reported by The Star newspaper in its Corridors of Power political gossip column on Tuesday, August 25.
The newspaper did not name the MP, and there is no public confirmation that the legislator has made a decision to leave ODM, meaning the reported plans remain allegations at this stage.
According to the report, the unnamed lawmaker has recently become increasingly critical of his sponsoring party, fuelling speculation about his political future.
Political insiders are purportedly claiming that he has told allies Linda Mwananchi has gained significant ground in his county.
The sources further alleged that the legislator believes openly opposing the movement could amount to political suicide, creating pressure for him to consider an eventual exit from ODM.
The speculation comes as Linda Mwananchi continues its nationwide mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election, with Sifuna emerging as one of its most prominent figures.
The movement has conducted rallies and political tours in several parts of the country, seeking to build a broader national following.
Its activities have also attracted attention in Western Kenya and Nyanza, traditionally important areas of ODM politics, where the movement has sought to establish its presence through grassroots engagements.
Linda Mwananchi is also attempting to secure a political vehicle ahead of the 2027 polls. Its efforts to register a party under the preferred name have faced hurdles, with the dispute now before the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal.
