Adhiambo, a Nairobi woman, has come forward to share her emotional journey of love, betrayal, and resilience. At just 23 years old, she embraced a blended family after marrying Emmanuel, a widower with three children.
Emmanuel formally sought her hand in marriage, visiting her father and paying dowry before they moved in together with their children — Adhiambo’s young son Eugene and Emmanuel’s three kids.
Raised in a humble, Christian home, Adhiambo recalled her father’s advice to love Emmanuel’s children as her own.
Life was peaceful in the beginning, and she committed herself to nurturing the children and supporting her husband. But cracks soon began to show.
Years into the marriage, Adhiambo started noticing packets of condoms in Emmanuel’s belongings. When she questioned him, he responded with anger and emotional manipulation, claiming she should be thankful he was “being careful.”
Despite enduring infections and emotional wounds, she chose to stay, driven by hope and her love for the children.
Eventually, they moved into a larger house, but what should have been a new beginning became another chapter of pain.
Emmanuel started an affair with their neighbor’s househelp, Sele. Adhiambo ignored early signs, even when one of the children questioned the nature of Emmanuel’s conversations with Sele.
Her worst fears were confirmed when a neighbor’s daughter revealed that Emmanuel had eloped with Sele to Nyeri.
Adhiambo traveled there unannounced and witnessed her husband introducing Sele as his future wife and referring to her as just a maid.
Though devastated, Adhiambo remained home, continuing to raise the children with love, even after Emmanuel abandoned his responsibilities. Her story is a testament to the quiet strength many women carry behind closed doors.
