Joining the Kenya Air Force (KAF) is one of the most prestigious and challenging careers in the country, offering the chance to operate state-of-the-art military jets and travel internationally. Entry requires Kenyan citizenship, a minimum KCSE grade of C plain, physical fitness, ages 18–27, a clean criminal record, and a solid understanding of the Kenyan Constitution.

Cpt Collins Omoro

Omoro joined the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in 2002, foregoing a Computer Science degree at Kenyatta University. He trained as a pilot in 2004 and now operates from Laikipia Air Base (LAB), sharing experiences of flying the Hawk jet in the UK.

Cpt Douglas Muthuri

Muthuri also joined KDF in 2002, inspired by his upbringing near Nanyuki Air Base. He opted out of Moi University to follow his passion for aviation and now serves at LAB’s Tactical Wing 15.

Cpt Cornelius Maiyo

Maiyo enlisted in 2001 and joined KAF in 2003. His training was physically and mentally demanding, preparing him for the rigorous responsibilities of a fighter pilot.

Col. Eric Kinuthia

Kinuthia, deputy base commander at LAB, joined in 1987. He trained in the US before returning to Kenya and now mentors children’s homes while pursuing a Business Management degree.

Lt. Col John Omenda

Omenda enlisted in 1987 and has been flying fighter jets since 1991, combining tactical skill with experience in navigation, communication, and aerial defense.

These five pilots exemplify dedication, skill, and resilience, ensuring Kenya’s skies remain secure while inspiring future generations of aviators.
