Residents of Kiambu County were left both shocked and amused after a man was evicted from his bedsitter by his caretaker for keeping a dairy cow inside the small apartment.

The unusual discovery has since gone viral on social media, drawing widespread reactions from Kenyans across the country.

According to the caretaker, the tenant had been renting the bedsitter for several months without raising any suspicion.

However, trouble arose when strong odours and unusual sounds prompted an inspection of the premises.

To their astonishment, a full-grown dairy cow was found inside the tiny living space. “We couldn’t believe our eyes. How someone could keep a cow in a bedsitter was beyond imagination,” the caretaker said.

Neighbours expressed both concern and amusement, noting that while urban livestock keeping is common in rural and peri-urban areas, such practices in confined city apartments are impractical and unhygienic.

The incident has sparked discussions about tenant responsibilities and proper animal husbandry practices in urban settings.

Legal experts note that keeping livestock in rented urban apartments may violate tenancy agreements and local health regulations, as confined spaces are not suitable for large animals and pose health and safety risks.

The eviction, therefore, was both a safety precaution and a legal necessity.

The man, who has remained unnamed, reportedly apologized for the inconvenience, claiming that he kept the cow for milk production and personal consumption. However, the caretaker insisted that such arrangements were unacceptable in a residential setting.

This unusual case serves as a reminder of the challenges of urban living and the importance of adhering to rental agreements.

While it has brought laughter to many online, it also underscores the need for responsible tenancy and consideration of neighbours in densely populated areas.
