Inspector-General of Police Douglas Kanja has urged newly trained police recruits to uphold discipline, professionalism and accountability as they prepare to begin serving Kenyans.
Kanja said the police uniform was more than a symbol of authority, warning the recruits that wearing it came with the responsibility of safeguarding the trust placed in the National Police Service by millions of Kenyans.
“As you prepare to take your place in service to the people, remember that the uniform you wear carries the trust of over fifty million Kenyans,” Kanja said.
“This is not an ordinary garment. It is a symbol of service, authority, accountability and patriotism.”
The IG spoke Tuesday when he presided over the final full-dress rehearsal parade for the graduating cohort of Administration police recruits at the National Police College, Embakasi ‘A’ Campus, Nairobi.
The rehearsal marked the culmination of months of intensive physical, tactical and intellectual training as the recruits prepare for their transition into public service.
Kanja congratulated the recruits on successfully completing the demanding training programme, commending them for their endurance, discipline and preparedness to protect and serve the country.
He challenged the officers to maintain high standards of conduct once deployed and remain committed to upholding the rule of law.
The IG also praised the Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service, the college commandant and training staff for their role in preparing the recruits for policing duties.
He said the training programme was aligned with best practices in police training and ongoing reforms within the National Police Service.

Kanja’s remarks come as the recruits prepare for their official passing-out parade, which will be presided over by President William Ruto on Friday.
The President, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, is expected to grace the ceremony scheduled for September 4.
The event will come just a few days after the passing out ceremony for Kenya police recruits at the main campus in Kiganjo.
Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service Gilbert Masengeli also addressed the recruits during the rehearsal, urging them to approach their new responsibilities with integrity, teamwork and dedication.
Masengeli reminded the officers that discipline would remain central to their careers in the National Police Service.
“Discipline remains the bedrock of the National Police Service,” Masengeli said, urging the recruits to serve with the highest level of integrity.
The rehearsal was attended by senior officers from various departments of the National Police Service, including Principal Deputy to the DIG Administration Police Service Masoud Mwinyi, Director of Training and Research David Birech and Director of Personnel at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Rosemary Kuraru.
The recruits are now set to complete the final preparations ahead of Friday’s passing-out ceremony, which will formally mark their entry into the National Police Service.
