Former Nairobi Water Company employee has been charged with using a bogus university degree to gain employment.

EACC stated that the woman, named as Liza Amara Anyoso, earned KSh 7.8 million in wages after presenting a bogus Bachelor of Commerce credential.

She denied the charges and was released on a cash bond of KSh 80,000 as the court set the matter for mention on October 23.

According to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Liza Amara Anyoso, a former NCWSC registry clerk, was detained on Wednesday, October 8.

This came after investigations found that she obtained the position with a falsified Bachelor of Commerce degree diploma from the University of Nairobi.

Authorities stated she earned a total of KSh 7.8 million in salary during her stint at the company. According to the anti-graft agency, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) evaluated the case file and approved various accusations.

Including forgery, uttering a fake document, and deceiving a principal, all under the Penal Code and the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act of 2003.

EACC officers arrested the suspect at the Integrity Centre Police Station and escorted her to the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court, where she appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Ondieki.

She pleaded not guilty to all the counts. The court awarded Anyoso a cash bail of KSh 80,000 or an alternative bond of KSh 1 million with one surety of similar value.

The case will be discussed on October 23 for further instructions. The event adds to the growing list of public servants and state employees accused of using fraudulent academic credentials, to secure employment in government entities.

The EACC has frequently cautioned that anyone discovered using counterfeit credentials, in recruitment or promotion processes will face prosecution, and the recovery of all unlawfully earned salary.
