A Nairobi woman has shared a harrowing story of abuse, describing years of conflict with her parents that escalated into a violent attack.

The woman recounted how her father stripped and beat her inside her husband’s house, leaving painful stripes on her back and thighs.

She said the humiliation of being attacked by her own parent while undressed was unbearable and convinced her that her family would never allow her peace, even in her marital home. Her ordeal, however, went beyond this single incident.

She claimed her parents later broke into her house and cleared it of belongings, taking everything down to small household items she had stored for friends.

More damaging, they allegedly confiscated her academic certificates, including her KCSE and diploma documents.

Without them, she was unable to pursue job opportunities at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic had already made employment scarce. When she reached out to request the return of her documents, her mother allegedly demanded Ksh 250,000, a sum she and her husband could not afford as students.

She believes the move was intended to undermine her independence and destabilise her marriage, leaving her no choice but to return to her parents’ control.

Despite her husband’s efforts to reconcile with her family, the standoff remains unresolved.

The woman’s story has stirred calls for victims in similar situations to seek legal protection and support rather than remain silent.
