Former inmate Mwendwa Kilatya has touched many people after he went back to court to thank the same magistrate who sent him to prison years ago. Instead of blaming the court for his jail term, Kilatya said the sentence changed his life for the better and helped him become a different person.
Kilatya visited Senior Principal Magistrate Eugene Pascal Nabwana to express his gratitude. He said that when he was sentenced to prison, he was angry and disappointed.
However, after spending time behind bars, he slowly started thinking deeply about the life he had been living. He realized that his wrong choices had brought him to that point.
While in prison, Kilatya decided that he would not waste his life anymore. He said he used the time to learn important lessons about discipline, responsibility, and respect for the law.
He also made a promise to himself that once he was released, he would never return to crime again. After completing his sentence, Kilatya worked hard to start a new life. He looked for honest work and stayed away from bad company.
He focused on becoming a good citizen and earning respect through hard work. He said changing his life was not easy, but he remained determined because he never wanted to go back to prison.
As time passed, Kilatya felt that he needed to thank the man whose decision had changed the direction of his life. That is why he returned to the court where he had once appeared as an accused person.
This time, he was not there to answer criminal charges. Instead, he came with a smile, a thankful heart, and a message of appreciation.
He thanked Magistrate Eugene Pascal Nabwana for making a decision that helped him become a better man. He said that although the prison sentence was painful, it gave him a chance to stop, think, and completely change his life. He added that if he had not gone to prison, he might have continued committing crimes and destroyed his future.
The meeting was emotional and inspired many people. It showed that some people can truly change after serving their prison sentences. Kilatya’s story reminds people that prison should not only punish offenders but also give them a chance to reform and become responsible members of society.
