Two pedestrians have lost their lives while a 10-year-old boy is fighting for his life after a devastating road accident in Nairobi’s Parklands area. The Sunday evening crash, which happened at around 6 p.m. on the road linking Deep Sea to Limuru Road, has renewed concerns about underage driving and road safety.
Police said the accident involved a Toyota Wish that was allegedly being driven by a 16-year-old boy. Preliminary findings indicate that the vehicle lost control after hitting a drainage ditch, causing it to become airborne before veering off the road and ploughing into three pedestrians. Two victims died instantly at the scene, while the injured child suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to Aga Khan Hospital for emergency treatment.
The teenage driver also sustained injuries, including head wounds and an abdominal cut. He was admitted to Aga Khan Hospital, where he remains under police watch as investigators continue examining the circumstances surrounding the crash. Detectives are particularly focusing on how the minor gained access to the vehicle and why he was behind the wheel.
Police officers who visited the scene documented evidence and launched investigations to establish the exact cause of the accident. The bodies of the two deceased victims were moved to the City Mortuary, where they await identification and post-mortem examinations.
