A Kenyan police officer known online as “Cop Shakur” went viral after sharing his struggles with debt, depression and the pressure of providing for his family on a constable’s salary. He posted a heartfelt thread on X saying, “I’m tired. Some days I just want to disappear.” His honesty caught the attention of thousands of Kenyans who quickly offered support.

Within hours, messages of encouragement and mental health contacts flooded his mentions. Many users also sent M-Pesa contributions. In less than a week, enough money was raised to clear his pressing debts and give him some breathing space.

Prominent figures like Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and photographer-activist Boniface Mwangi personally called Cop Shakur to check on him. They promised to support him and encouraged others to rally around him. “If we can rally for politics, we can rally for a brother in pain,” Babu Owino said online.

Advice poured in from X users about starting a business. Cop Shakur chose to open a laundry service in his Eastlands neighbourhood. With the funds raised, he bought two industrial washing machines, detergents and uniforms. Last week, he officially opened “Shakur Laundry & Dry Cleaners.”

The business is already making a modest profit, and he has hired two local youths. He continues his police duties but now has a side business that eases his financial stress. His story shows how honesty and community support can transform lives, turning despair into opportunity and giving hope to others facing similar struggles.
