Ghanaian content creator and YouTuber Wode Maya has opened up about his wife, Kenyan YouTuber Miss Trudy, giving birth abroad, shedding light on the emotional, medical, and financial journey they endured to welcome their child.
Speaking candidly, Maya revealed that the couple welcomed their baby in the United States, a decision that sparked both praise and criticism online.
Maya explained that flying his wife abroad was not a luxury choice but a medical necessity. According to him, Trudy’s doctor advised that she give birth in the US for better specialised care.
He recalled that when Trudy was six months pregnant, her doctor in Ghana told him they had done all they could and recommended advanced facilities in America, noting the availability of better machines and care.
“I have spent a lot of money. I can’t even sit here and explain the extent,” Maya said, adding that he even paid for his wife’s business class ticket to ensure her comfort and safety during the long journey.
He admitted that the decision attracted backlash, with some fans accusing him of hypocrisy for claiming to be a Pan-Africanist while choosing to give birth in the US.
The YouTuber said the criticism was painful, especially considering the couple’s difficult journey to parenthood.
Maya revealed that Miss Trudy had struggled to conceive due to a heart-shaped womb, a condition that made it hard for the baby to grow properly.
The couple had to undergo medical procedures to correct the issue after suffering failed pregnancies, making this pregnancy extremely delicate.
Despite the attacks, Kenyans on social media praised Maya for standing by his wife throughout her pregnancy and prioritising her health.
Joking about online criticism, Maya said there are moments he feels like confronting his critics directly, but he understands that many people do not see the full picture.
For Maya and Trudy, the safe arrival of their baby made every sacrifice worthwhile, marking a joyful end to a long and challenging journey.
