Despite President Uhuru Kenyatta’s term nearing to a close, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha has defended his continuous attempts to establish Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) classes, claiming he is only devoted to carrying out his government-issued mission.

On Tuesday, as he inspected some of the classes, Magoha spoke in Lang’ata, emphasizing that his activities should not be construed as merely an attempt to integrate himself into the administration of President-elect William Ruto.

He did, however, hint that he would be willing to join Ruto’s cabinet if Ruto thought about reinstating him after his work in the sector.

“You can bet your bottom dollar that I am not looking for work. Nobody should think that I am undertaking this task to demonstrate my interest in the position, Magoha remarked.

But if the president-elect decides in his wisdom that I am even marginally deserving of consideration, “we will speak with him since I have now linked with the children, the underprivileged children,”

In addition, he said: “If we are thinking in the same way and he provides me the support that I need, which means that I do things the way he wants and not as anyone else wants, if it is God’s will I will say yes.”

Magoha justified the continuous construction of CBC classrooms by stating that the organization “is not a money guzzler, you just have to make sure that you receive value for money.” Given their habit of doing things a certain way, government employees will find it difficult to receive value for their money.

Magoha’s comments are in response to rumored conflict between him and Ruto that was visible throughout the election campaign in August.

Following the Supreme Court’s decision on Monday to uphold Ruto’s victory, he will be sworn in as president on Tuesday of the following week at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani. Following his inauguration, Ruto will be expected to name his new cabinet.
