President William Ruto made a strong political statement in Meru as he continued his tour of the Mount Kenya region for the second day, taking a direct swipe at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Addressing a charged crowd, Ruto dismissed those he accused of engaging in divisive politics, insisting that his administration is focused on national development rather than regional power struggles.

“We cannot afford to waste time on petty politics. My government is here to serve all Kenyans, not a select few,” Ruto stated, in what appeared to be a direct attack on Gachagua’s recent push for Mount Kenya unity.

His remarks come amid growing tensions within the Kenya Kwanza government, with Gachagua advocating for a more centralized political strategy for Mount Kenya, which some leaders see as an attempt to sideline other regions.

Ruto, however, reassured Meru residents that his leadership will ensure equal development across the country. He emphasized that no leader should dictate who gets political power, as that decision belongs to the people.

The president’s visit to Mount Kenya has been viewed as a strategic move to consolidate support in the region, amid growing rifts within his camp. His strong statements in Meru suggest he is ready to challenge any opposition, even from within his government.

As political dynamics in Mount Kenya continue to shift, all eyes are on how Gachagua will respond to Ruto’s latest remarks.
