Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has condemned the burning of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya’s public address system in Homa Bay, describing the incident as unacceptable regardless of political affiliations.

In a statement reacting to the incident, Salasya expressed sadness over the destruction of the equipment, which he said belonged to Governor Natembeya. He also raised concerns over reports surrounding the detention of former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya, although such claims should be independently verified before being treated as established facts.

“This is Governor Natembeya’s public address system, burnt to ashes in Homa Bay town yesternight… Sad,” Salasya stated.

The outspoken legislator further made it clear that his position was not influenced by membership in the Linda Mwananchi political movement. He said that even though he is not a member of the group, what happened in Homa Bay had gone too far.

“I am totally against this bullshit, ata kama am not a member of Linda Mwananchi, this was too much,” he added.

Salasya’s remarks come amid heightened political activity in different parts of the country, where rival political groups have increasingly used public rallies and grassroots mobilisation to advance their positions. The destruction of equipment used during political engagements can therefore raise concerns about the safety of political actors, supporters and members of the public.

The MP’s statement also highlights the importance of allowing political differences to be expressed peacefully. While politicians may disagree strongly over policies, alliances and leadership ambitions, disagreements do not have to result in the destruction of property or disruption of public activities.

The incident is likely to attract further attention as political leaders continue commenting on events surrounding rallies and public meetings. Salasya’s decision to condemn the incident despite distancing himself from Linda Mwananchi could also fuel wider discussion about political tolerance and accountability.

As debate continues over what happened in Homa Bay, Kenyans will be watching closely for further clarification from the affected leaders and relevant authorities.
