The country remains in mourning following the death of Emurua Dikirr MP Johanna Ng’eno, who lost his life in a helicopter crash last Saturday. The accident claimed six lives and left family, friends, and constituents in deep shock.
Among those most affected is GK Kechwo, a longtime friend and mentee of the late MP. In an emotional social media post, Kechwo revealed that he had nearly boarded the same helicopter but was delayed after the motorcycle taxi he was using developed a flat tire on the way to Mara Rianta.
He described the five-minute delay as the reason he missed the flight, saying the moment has left him shaken and reflective. Kechwo shared that the boda boda rider suggested the delay may have happened for a reason, a thought he says continues to weigh heavily on him.
To honor their friendship, Kechwo posted a photo taken in 2007, noting that they had known each other for 19 years. He recalled how Ng’eno visited him while he was still in high school and described him as a supportive mentor and friend whose absence will be deeply felt.
Messages of condolence have continued to pour in across social media, with leaders and citizens alike paying tribute to the late legislator. Embakasi East MP Babu Owino described Ng’eno as a committed public servant whose leadership would be remembered. Other leaders also praised his role in Narok County politics and his connection with the grassroots.
Photos circulating online show Ng’eno interacting with residents just hours before the crash, highlighting his close relationship with the people he represented.
The tragedy has served as a stark reminder of how quickly circumstances can change. As investigations into the crash continue, many Kenyans are reflecting on the life and legacy of a leader remembered for his dedication to public service.
