Millie Odhiambo Declares That She Will Not Support Broad-Based Government to Become a Village Elder
Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has sparked intense political debate after firmly rejecting the proposal for a broad-based government. Speaking during a public forum captured in a widely circulated video she stated that the plan offers nothing meaningful to the opposition and only seeks to reduce experienced leaders into village elders.
Odhiambo argued that the idea of expanding government positions under the guise of national unity is simply a strategy to weaken the opposition and silence critical voices. She maintained that her role is to defend the interests of her constituents and safeguard democratic accountability not to join a government structure that dilutes political oversight.
Her remarks drew strong reactions from supporters who praised her for taking a principled stand. They expressed concern that the broad-based government approach may compromise checks and balances by absorbing opposition leaders into state appointments.
Critics however dismissed her comments as political posturing claiming that the proposal is meant to foster stability and reduce partisan tension. They argued that national dialogue and shared governance are necessary for long term peace and development.
The video featuring her emphatic statement has continued to circulate widely reigniting discussions on the viability of an expanded government and the future of opposition politics in Kenya. Odhiambo’s firm position signals that the debate is far from over as leaders continue to weigh the political cost and benefits of embracing or rejecting the proposal.
