Former United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malalah has lifted the lid on internal power struggles within the ruling party, revealing that he advised President William Ruto against plans to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua — a warning that was reportedly ignored.
Speaking during a candid interview on Spice FM, Malalah disclosed that he cautioned the Head of State that such a move would “sink the ship,” only to be sidelined and later forced out of his influential position in the party.
Malala Sends A Stern Warning To President Ruto Over DP Gachagua’s Impeachment Plan
“I advised the President, as Secretary General, that impeaching Rigathi would sink the ship. He dismissed me as an enemy,” Malalah said.
He claimed that UDA insiders had already drafted an impeachment plan and even floated a proposal to introduce two deputy party leaders to replace Gachagua seamlessly.
“I was then asked to sign the impeachment. They were adamant, and I warned it would destabilize the party,” he added.
Malalah’s revelations point to deep cracks within the ruling coalition, amid growing political tension and factionalism. His departure from the Secretary General post now appears tied to the infighting and strategic power plays rocking the party’s top leadership.
