Stella Bunei, popularly known as Jemutai, has delivered a sharp response to her former partner and fellow comedian Herman Kago, widely known as Professor Hamo, following remarks in which he allegedly referred to their two children as a “mistake.”
In a series of videos shared on her Instagram account, Jemutai addressed the comments, saying she felt compelled to speak out to defend her children and challenge what she described as an unhealthy narrative.
Long-running public tension
The two comedians first drew widespread public attention in 2021 when details of their relationship and family situation became a trending topic online. According to Jemutai, that period marked a turning point in their personal lives as the matter played out across social media platforms.
Five years later, the mother of two says the current discussion surrounding their family is unfair.
“As a mom, it reaches a point to protect your children because this is not healthy. This is not fair at all,” she said.
Responding to the “victim” narrative
In the videos, Jemutai also challenged suggestions that Hamo’s professional struggles are tied to the fallout from their past relationship. She argued that his career challenges are instead linked to a lack of consistency in his work.
“Dear Herman Kago, stop playing the victim. The reason we went viral is because of the children. It has never been about us. Either we planned it or not, the kids are here and they depend on us,” she said.
She further questioned his recent media appearances, asking what he hoped to gain from repeatedly discussing their past on various podcasts.
“Imagine as a dad you are jumping from one podcast to the other. What are you discussing? What fame are you looking for that you don’t have?” she added.
Concerns about professional consistency
Jemutai also addressed Hamo’s career trajectory, noting that he is eight years older than her and should be more focused on strengthening his professional output.
While acknowledging his talent as both a stand-up comedian and musician, she questioned his productivity in recent years. She asked how many comedy specials he had produced since 2020 and how consistently he engages his audience online.
“I’m going to tell you why you’re not making money,” she said in one clip, arguing that his financial struggles are not a result of past scandals but rather a lack of progress while the entertainment industry has evolved.
“The reason you’re not making money is not because you cheated with Jemutai… It’s because you’re still stuck on Churchill Show’s fame,” she added.
Focus remains on the children
Despite the criticism directed at Hamo’s career, Jemutai emphasised that her primary concern is the wellbeing of their children.
Although Hamo has previously acknowledged her as the mother of his children, Jemutai’s reaction suggests lingering frustration over how their shared history is discussed publicly.
She concluded by explaining that she broke her silence only because the situation had become unfair to the children involved.
Jemutai noted that while she generally prefers to stay away from public drama, she would not hesitate to speak out whenever the welfare of her family is at stake.
