Heavy Rains

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued an urgent alert over intense rainfall and thunderstorms expected across many counties this week. Residents in cities and rural areas are preparing for disruptions, flooding, and potential danger.

From Nairobi to Mombasa, Kisumu to Nakuru, showers and thunderstorms are forecast to affect both urban centers and remote communities. Families, commuters, and businesses are concerned about wet roads, waterlogged areas, and interruptions to daily routines.

In the Central Highlands, counties including Nairobi, Kiambu, Nyeri, and Kirinyaga will face heavy rains that could make travel hazardous. Western and Rift Valley counties like Kakamega, Bungoma, and Kericho are likely to experience afternoon thunderstorms that may disrupt school and work schedules.

Along the coast, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale are also on alert. Residents fear flash floods in low-lying areas, while traders worry about damage to goods and market stalls. Even arid counties such as Mandera, Wajir, and Marsabit may see isolated thunderstorms that could catch locals off guard.

Meteorologists warn that rainfall could exceed 30 millimeters within 24 hours in some areas, raising the risk of road accidents, waterlogging, and property damage. For ordinary people, the forecast is more than numbers. It affects school routines, commutes, and the safety of families across the country.

Authorities urge everyone to stay informed through daily bulletins, avoid crossing flooded roads and take precautions in vulnerable areas. Even short bursts of heavy rain can cause serious disruptions, making vigilance essential.
