Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has revived his political feud with Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, drawing attention to their different political alignments while questioning the governor’s security credentials.
Speaking in an interview with Oga Obinna, Barasa said his military service gave him extensive knowledge of security matters. He recalled serving as a technician in the Kenya Air Force under the late Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla, whom he described as his base commander.
A supporter of President William Ruto’s administration, Barasa used the interview to challenge Natembeya’s reputation as a security expert, claiming the governor exaggerates his background.
“I was a technician at the Kenya Air Force, and my boss was the late Francis Ogolla, who was my base commander. He is a fake commando; I am the real trained commando,” Barasa said.
The remarks come amid continuing political differences between the two leaders. Barasa has consistently backed the Kenya Kwanza administration, while Natembeya has emerged as one of the leaders openly critical of President Ruto’s government.
Although they now stand on opposing political sides, both men have roots in Kenya’s security sector. Natembeya previously served as a Regional Commissioner before joining elective politics, while Barasa has frequently cited his military experience as part of his leadership credentials.
Barasa’s latest remarks have intensified their rivalry, bringing their respective security backgrounds into the political spotlight as leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
