Siaya Governor James Orengo has praised the Social Health Authority (SHA) for making a real difference in his county.
Speaking during an event, Orengo said that SHA has helped many people in Siaya access healthcare, while also helping the county raise its own revenue.
“Under SHA, total claims raised so far is Ksh. 281 million, and amount paid is Ksh. 180 million in Siaya County,” he revealed. “What is pending is only Ksh. 101 million. So, SHA is a good story.”
Governor Orengo said that these figures show that the health program is working well.
He explained that many residents have been able to get treatment through SHA, and that hospitals in the county are receiving the funds they need to improve services.
SHA was introduced by the national government to ensure that all Kenyans can get access to quality healthcare without facing financial difficulties.
Under this program, people can get treatment at approved health facilities, and the costs are later claimed and paid by SHA.
In Siaya, Governor Orengo noted that SHA is not just benefiting patients, but also helping the county raise more money on its own.
“It has improved our own source of revenue quite significantly,” he said.
He added that when hospitals are paid on time and more people are seeking services, it creates a stronger local health system.
The money also helps pay staff, buy medicine, and improve infrastructure.
Governor Orengo encouraged residents to continue registering and using SHA, saying it is a sign of progress and fairness in healthcare delivery.
He also called on the national government to clear the pending Ksh. 101 million in claims so that all providers are fully settled.
