Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, an ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, says he will sue the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) over alleged fraud in the instant traffic fine payment system.
In a public statement released on Thursday, July 2, Njiru, who has represented Gachagua in several legal matters, including a case challenging his impeachment, urged motorists to provide proof of payments toward the instant fines so he can take the evidence to court.

Njiru said motorists who paid overspeeding fines through the eCitizen platform and have doubts about how the payments were processed should keep all relevant records. He asked them to preserve payment confirmations, transaction receipts, bank statements, screenshots, and any related correspondence.

“Members of the public who may have made payments relating to NTSA overspeeding fines through eCitizen and have concerns about the payment process are invited to come forward,” Njiru stated.

“If you have evidence of a payment that you believe to have been processed incorrectly or to an account that was not an official government account, kindly preserve all relevant records, including payment confirmations, transaction receipts, bank statements, screenshots, and any related communication,” he added.

Njiru appealed to members of the public who believe NTSA processed their payments incorrectly or sent them to an account that was not an official government account.

“The information received will be reviewed to determine whether there is a sufficient basis for appropriate legal action, including, where warranted, proceedings before the High Court to seek recovery of any funds that may have been wrongly paid,” the lawyer added.

The announcement comes days after Gachagua said he would ask Kenyans to oppose several NTSA guidelines, including a mandatory vehicle inspection the authority planned to enforce from Wednesday, July 1, which has since been suspended by the court.
