Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has finally spoken out about his political stand ahead of the 2027 General Election. For weeks, speculation has been rife on whether he would stand with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka or chart his own path.
Speaking during an interview on K24 TV on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, Babu Owino cleared the air, stating that he has no issue working with Kalonzo. He questioned why the former vice president is suddenly being painted as a weak or unreliable leader, yet he had strongly supported ODM and Raila Odinga in 2013, 2017, and 2022.
Babu further defended Martha Karua, pointing out that she has equally been sidelined despite standing firmly with the Azimio coalition in the last election. He stressed that politics should not be about betrayal but about unity, checks, and balances that keep the government on its toes.
The youthful MP, who has had tense relations with ODM lately, said he believes working with Kalonzo or Karua does not mean abandoning the opposition. Instead, it should be seen as strengthening the team ahead of the next election. He also reminded Kenyans that the role of the position is not to fight each other but to ensure accountability in government.
Babu’s remarks come at a time when ODM has appeared to lean closer to UDA in Nairobi politics, even showing support for Governor Johnson Sakaja, a seat Babu is eyeing in 2027. This shift has pushed him closer to the Kenya Moja movement led by Edwin Sifuna, where young leaders are pushing for a stronger alliance.
During a recent church event, Kitutu Chache MP Antony Kibagendi echoed similar sentiments, urging youthful leaders to unite with figures like Kalonzo, Rigathi Gachagua, and Fred Matiang’i to build a formidable opposition force.
With 2027 fast approaching, Babu Owino’s stand signals a growing call for unity among opposition leaders determined to challenge what they call a corrupt and bribery-driven government.
