Maurine Omari Omulama, a 30-year-old mother of two, is currently stranded in Saudi Arabia after a troubling encounter with her employer.
Her family in Kitengela, Kenya, is deeply concerned for her safety following reports that her boss burned her clothes and important documents, including her passport.
Maurine traveled to Saudi Arabia in 2019 in search of better job opportunities. Over the years, she occasionally shared her struggles with her family, mentioning the harsh treatment she experienced from her employer.
However, her brother, Sylvester Omulama, stated that she had never reported any extreme violence until this latest incident.
The alarming situation unfolded during a recent phone call between Maurine and Sylvester. While they were talking, Maurine informed him that her boss had taken her phone and broken it.
At that moment, she revealed that her employer had burned her clothing and essential documents. Sylvester expressed his fear and worry, saying, “We do not know if she is okay or if she is alive. We are very worried.”
The incident appears to have escalated after a disagreement between Maurine and her boss, just as she was preparing to return to Kenya.
Sylvester explained, “It seems there was a disagreement as if the boss did not want to release her.” He emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that they have not heard from Maurine since the phone was destroyed.
Living in Kitengela with Maurine’s children, Sylvester is facing challenges in providing for them without Maurine’s financial support.
He shared that the family relied on her salary from Saudi Arabia, which has now stopped due to her current predicament. “It has been tough all along. We do not know whether she is safe, yet we have needs at home. We don’t know what to do,” he lamented.
