Businessman and politician Jimi Wanjigi has claimed that President William Ruto’s biggest competition ahead of the 2027 General Election is Kenya’s struggling economy, arguing that the Head of State has already lost that battle.

Wanjigi said economic conditions in the country could pose a major challenge to Ruto as he seeks to defend his presidency in the next election. “President Ruto’s only competition is the economy, and he has lost to it,” Wanjigi claimed.

His remarks come amid continued political debate over the government’s economic record, with opposition leaders frequently criticising the administration over the cost of living and the financial pressures facing ordinary Kenyans.

Wanjigi has remained vocal on national political issues as opposition leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 polls. The statement also adds to growing criticism of Ruto’s administration as political leaders seek to use economic concerns to influence voters ahead of the election.
