Tensions rose during the funeral of veteran politician Burudi Nabwera in Western Kenya after Kiminini MP Kakai Bisau attempted to interrupt Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya’s speech, triggering a heated exchange.
Natembeya was addressing mourners when Bisau tried to stop him from continuing, sparking commotion at the venue. The confrontation came during the same funeral where Bumula MP Jack Wamboka had called for regional unity and rallied support for Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.
Natembeya reacted angrily to the interruption, questioning the conduct of leaders seeking to cut short his address. He defended his position as an elected governor and criticised what he viewed as disrespect towards county leadership.
The governor also spoke against political interference, insisting that elected leaders should be allowed to address residents without intimidation. The disagreement briefly disrupted the proceedings as those present reacted to the exchange.
Natembeya eventually continued his address, urging residents to protect their democratic rights and reject political intimidation.
