Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has issued a public apology to residents of Vihiga County following rising tensions linked to an incident involving Senator Godfrey Osotsi during the ongoing “Linda Mwananchi” political engagements in Western Kenya.
Speaking at Shamakhokho Market during a lively rally, Sifuna acknowledged public anger over the alleged attack on Osotsi in Kisumu, saying he regretted not being present at the time to help defuse the situation.
“Please forgive me, I was not around when Senator Osotsi was being attacked. If I was there, those goons could not have even tried it,” Sifuna told the crowd, drawing mixed reactions from residents who had gathered to listen to the leaders.
He further assured the audience that Osotsi was swiftly taken to hospital after the incident and is now in stable condition, recovering well. His remarks appeared aimed at calming emotions in a region where political tensions have been building in recent days.
Sifuna used the platform to urge restraint and unity, warning against allowing political competition to spill into violence. He called on residents to prioritize peace as leaders continue mobilizing support ahead of the 2027 political season.
The Shamakhokho rally formed part of the wider “Linda Mwananchi” tour across Vihiga County, which has brought together prominent figures from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Siaya Senator James Orengo. The leaders have been addressing large crowds, focusing on grassroots engagement and calls for political cohesion.
Residents expressed concern over the reported violence in Kisumu, with some urging security agencies to strengthen protection during political gatherings. Others appealed to leaders to tone down rhetoric and ensure campaigns remain peaceful.
The tour is expected to proceed to Majengo and later Luanda, as ODM leaders continue their engagements across the region amid heightened political activity and growing public attention.
