Gladys Wanga has moved to fill the leadership gap in Homa Bay County following the resignation of her former deputy, Oyugi Magwanga.
In an executive order dated March 16, 2026, the governor nominated Danish Otieno Onyango as the new Deputy Governor, subject to approval by the County Assembly.
The nomination comes at a critical time for the county administration, which has been operating without a substantive deputy since Magwanga stepped down.
Wanga’s decision signals an effort to restore stability and maintain momentum in service delivery across the region.
According to the official communication from the Governor’s office, Onyango brings with him a wealth of experience in public service.
Having joined government in 2003, he has steadily risen through the ranks, earning a reputation for professionalism and integrity.
Most recently, he has been serving in a senior role within the infrastructure sector, where he has been credited with contributing to key development initiatives.
Academically, Onyango holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Political Science, and Public Administration from the University of Nairobi, as well as a Master’s degree in Development Studies.
His blend of technical expertise and administrative experience appears to have informed Wanga’s choice.
If approved, Onyango will serve concurrently as the County Executive Committee Member in charge of Roads and Public Works, a role he currently holds.
This dual responsibility is expected to strengthen coordination between the executive office and critical infrastructure projects within the county.
The nomination now awaits vetting and approval by the Homa Bay County Assembly.
Once confirmed, Onyango will officially assume office, marking a new chapter in the county’s leadership and governance structure.
