Jamhuri High School, one of Nairobi’s oldest institutions, has a rich history dating back to 1906 when it was called Government Indian School. It later became the Duke of Gloucester School in 1955 and adopted its current name after Kenya’s independence. Beyond academics, the school has been a launchpad for many of Kenya’s most successful personalities in business, government, and media.

Shaka Kariuki

Shaka Kariuki is a leading corporate figure in Sub-Saharan Africa. He serves as Group Chair of Transcentury PLC and CEO of Kuramo Capital Limited, managing a portfolio estimated at $500 million. Kariuki is also vice chair at Platcorp Holdings and Sterling Capital Limited and sits on the board of BYU Marriott School of Management in the U.S. He studied at Jamhuri High School before earning undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from Brigham Young University and Harvard University, respectively.

Vimal Shah

Vimal Shah, CEO of Bidco Group, has grown the company into a major industrial player in edible oils, animal feeds, and personal care products. Though born into a wealthy family, he played a hands-on role in building Bidco from scratch. Shah attended Jamhuri High School and later studied Business Administration and Finance at United States International University (USIU).

Alfred Mutua

Alfred Mutua, Kenya’s Foreign Affairs CS and former Machakos Governor, completed his ‘A’ levels at Jamhuri High School. Known for his tenure as Government Spokesperson and later as governor, Mutua disclosed assets worth KSh 420 million during parliamentary vetting.

 

Johnson Mwakazi

Johnson Mwakazi, a former Citizen TV Power Breakfast anchor, is an alumnus of Jamhuri High School. After media, he founded Royal Voice International, focusing on events, publicity, and mentorship.
