Controversial Kenyan blogger Edgar Obare has announced plans to sell his popular gossip-focused Instagram account, sparking widespread discussion across digital media circles.
The announcement was made on Monday, December 15, 2025, through his Instagram Stories, where he revealed that BNN Ltd is officially up for sale.
According to Obare, the sale includes all digital assets, brand identity, trademarks, and data associated with the BNN platform he has operated for years.
He emphasized that only serious buyers would be considered and clearly stated that a deposit would be required to initiate any negotiations.
BNN has grown into one of Kenya’s most followed gossip brands, known for celebrity exposés, viral stories, and controversial social commentary.
The decision to sell comes barely a month after a Nairobi court ruled against Obare in a high-profile defamation case.
On November 7, 2025, the court ordered him to pay Ksh6 million in damages to model Bernice Nunah and co-plaintiff Kelvin Kaume Maingi.
The award included Ksh4 million in general damages and an additional Ksh2 million in exemplary and aggravated damages.
Obare was also directed to issue a full public apology, withdraw the defamatory post from December 22, 2022, and refrain from further statements.
The ruling highlighted the legal risks associated with online publishing and irresponsible content creation in Kenya’s fast-growing digital space.
Bernice Nunah is a respected fashion model and entrepreneur who gained prominence after excelling in the Miss World Kenya pageant.
Over the years, Obare has faced multiple lawsuits related to his reporting, although few have resulted in successful judgments against him.
His announcement has raised speculation about whether the sale is a strategic exit, legal necessity, or a shift toward new ventures.
As conversations continue online, the potential sale marks a significant moment in Kenya’s evolving influencer and digital media landscape.
