The Kenyan government is pushing forward with the Affordable Housing Project, a major initiative aimed at easing the country’s housing crisis. Spearheaded by President William Ruto’s administration, the project is designed to create accessible homeownership opportunities for ordinary Kenyans, especially those from low and middle-income backgrounds.

With a growing urban population and limited housing stock, the demand for decent and affordable homes has long outpaced supply. The government’s plan targets this gap by offering subsidized housing units with flexible payment options tailored to fit varied income levels.

The rollout of the project has started in key urban centers, including Nairobi, Nakuru, and Mombasa. In these cities, construction is in full swing, with thousands of units already at different stages of completion. The government is working closely with private sector developers to accelerate delivery and maintain construction standards.

A central feature of the program is transparency. Housing units are being allocated through a structured system designed to prevent favoritism. This model allows ordinary Kenyans to apply with confidence, knowing the process is fair and accessible.
