Kenyans have been cautioned to prepare for intense weather conditions over the next four days.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued an alert warning of persistent heavy rains and strong winds set to hit multiple regions from Friday, June 6 to Monday, June 9, 2025.
According to the department, regions in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, Central Rift Valley, and the Coastal strip are all in line for significant rainfall.
Alongside the rain, strong winds are expected to sweep through areas in the South-eastern lowlands, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya.
Wind speeds are projected to surpass 25 knots, which translates to about 46 km/h. These gusts may disrupt outdoor activities and pose a danger to small boats and vessels, especially along the coastal waters.
Nairobi and nearby counties such as Nyeri and Murang’a will see cloudy mornings giving way to sunshine later in the day. However, light to moderate showers are likely to fall in the afternoons, with night temperatures expected to drop significantly—some areas might experience lows of 5°C.
Residents of Kisumu, Kakamega, Bungoma, and Nakuru should brace for sunny mornings followed by afternoon thunderstorms. Nighttime conditions will be mostly cloudy with occasional drizzle, while daytime highs will remain between 28°C and 30°C.
Turkana and Samburu will largely remain dry and sunny during the day, with night temperatures dipping as low as 8°C. The heat will persist, with daytime temperatures soaring up to 36°C.
The northern counties of Garissa, Mandera, and Wajir will stay mostly dry with minimal rainfall. Daytime heat will be intense, with highs pushing 38°C.
Kitui, Machakos, and Makueni will experience light rains mainly in the early mornings and evenings. The region will stay warm, with temperatures ranging between 30°C and 32°C.
Meanwhile, coastal towns including Mombasa, Lamu, Kilifi, and Kwale are expected to have humid conditions with showers in the mornings and afternoons. The public has been advised to monitor updates and exercise caution during this period.
