Social media personality Isaac Otesa, popularly known as Goliath wa Bungoma, has found himself at the centre of an online controversy after clashing with his former boss and mentor, Patrick Riang’a, during a TikTok Live session.
The disagreement attracted attention after Patrick questioned Goliath’s repeated requests for financial assistance from Kenyans despite having secured employment through his intervention.
During the broadcast, Patrick expressed disappointment with what he considered a habit of publicly soliciting money. He reminded Goliath that he had previously helped him secure a job at Car Soko and questioned why he continued appealing to the public for financial support.
Patrick also raised concerns about Goliath’s claims of struggling to pay rent and having electricity disconnected at his residence. He argued that such appeals could create a negative impression of the company.
However, Goliath defended himself, explaining that he sometimes experiences personal financial challenges and does not want to keep contacting Patrick or the company’s management whenever he needs assistance.
The disagreement became increasingly tense, with Goliath eventually cutting Patrick off during the live broadcast before they could reach an apparent understanding.
WHY THEIR RELATIONSHIP CHANGED
Patrick previously played an important role in helping Goliath establish himself in Nairobi after his social media popularity attracted public attention.
He helped him secure a brand ambassadorial opportunity at Car Soko and supported efforts to construct a three-bedroom house for him in Bungoma.
Their professional relationship later changed after Patrick left Car Soko and joined rival dealership Sialkot Motors, while Goliath remained associated with Car Soko, according to K24 Digital.
The latest confrontation has therefore attracted attention because it involves two individuals who previously shared a working relationship built around mentorship and professional support.
KENYANS REACT TO THE DISAGREEMENT
The incident has generated different opinions among social media users.
Some believe Goliath should make better use of the opportunities he received and exercise greater financial discipline. Others argue that receiving employment or assistance does not automatically eliminate someone’s financial difficulties.
The disagreement has also renewed discussions about whether disagreements involving mentors and the people they have supported should be addressed publicly or handled privately.
For now, the confrontation has placed their relationship under public scrutiny, although no confirmed resolution was established in the reports.
The incident also highlights the challenges public personalities face when their personal financial circumstances become subjects of public discussion.
