Jirongo

Former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo is grieving the loss of his beloved daughter, Lauren, but what has made the pain even worse is the noticeable absence of his fellow politicians. Despite his long and influential career in Kenyan politics, many of the leaders who once sought his guidance and support failed to stand with him in his time of sorrow.

The requiem mass, held yesterday at AIC Milimani, was filled with mourners, family, and close friends, but the political class was largely missing. Jirongo, known for his role in shaping the country’s political landscape, expressed his disappointment over the lack of support from his colleagues. He spoke passionately about his daughter, recalling cherished memories, and even introduced all his children to the congregation. However, the loneliness of the moment was evident.

Among the few leaders who attended were Senator Dr. Boni Khalwale, MP Emmanuel Wangwe, Kakai Bisau, and George Khaniri. Their presence, though appreciated, only highlighted the absence of many others. Also standing with Jirongo were Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua and lawyer Betty Murungi, who joined other mourners in comforting him.
