A burial service at St. John’s ACK Church in Kiambaa, Kiambu County, was briefly disrupted after alleged members of the Mungiki sect caused a commotion.
Mourners were thrown into panic when the group reportedly arrived in buses, raising fears of violence. According to politician Eric Mutura, who was leading the bereaved family, the individuals were allegedly hired to create unrest.
The situation escalated as tensions grew among attendees, with many questioning the motive behind the sudden appearance of the group. Security personnel had to step in to calm the situation and ensure the ceremony continued without further disruption.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was expected to attend the burial, raising speculation that the disruption may have been politically motivated.
Speaking at the event, local leaders urged the youth to refrain from being used to instigate chaos. They emphasized the need for peaceful engagement in political and social matters.
Authorities are yet to confirm whether the individuals were indeed linked to the Mungiki sect. Investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the disruption and any possible instigators.
Despite the tension, the burial proceeded as planned, with leaders calling for unity and peace in the community.
