Former UDA Secretary-General Cleophas Malala has launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto, accusing him of a long history of actions against children.
Speaking in a viral video while defending his banned play Echoes of War, Malala claimed that the government’s decision to block the performance by Butere Girls High School is part of a disturbing pattern.
“Check the history of the person fighting Echoes of War. Observe the hate he has for children—from Kiambaa Church to Lang’ata Road Primary, where land was grabbed and children were tear-gassed, and now Butere Girls,” Malala said.
The former Kakamega senator was referring to the 2007 Kiambaa Church massacre, in which children perished during post-election violence, and the 2015 Lang’ata Road Primary School incident, where police used teargas on pupils protesting a land grab.
Malala, who is also the playwright behind Echoes of War, has vowed to stage the play using an adult cast after the Ministry of Education banned its performance by students, calling it politically charged.
His remarks have reignited debate over freedom of expression and whether the current regime is targeting artistic voices critical of the government.
