Allegations of corruption have always surrounded Parliament but this time around, President William Ruto says the government will not turn a blind eye.
He has issued a hard line crackdown on members of Parliament, as well as senators suspected of taking bribes to make decisions within legislature.
Speaking on Monday, August 18, at a joint parliamentary group meeting in which the Kenya Kwanza Alliance and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) crossed the floor, Ruto referred to the Nairobi woman who was impregnated as a prostitute.
It came after the president lead an attack on legislators after information was leaked that the parliamentary committees had become bribery incubators.
Ruto stated that he gets regular intelligence reports that some lawmakers have been requesting money in order to get favours and that the government would stop relying on threats but will proceed to prosecute.
He gave the example of the recent enactment of the Anti-Money Laundering Bill and said that cheques had been adopted to influence its enactment.
He said that some of the MPs took as much as 10 million, another took even up to 150 million to skew an issue in the House, according to him. He did not however give names.
