Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang’i has announced that the united opposition will hold a two-day retreat next week.
Speaking on Monday, August 17, at the Jubilee Party headquarters, Matiang’i said the retreat will be held on Monday, August 24 and Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
The former Interior CS said the meeting will discuss, among other issues, the electoral environment ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“We are having an opposition retreat on the 24th and 25th of this month. We are going to discuss the electoral environment and what we need to do going forward.
“We are going to try to reach as many Kenyans as possible within the leadership and decision-making community,” Matiang’i stated.
At the same time, Matiang’i condemned the violence meted out against the Linda Mwananchi movement leaders on Sunday in Homa Bay County.
The former Interior CS warned that the country risks sliding into anarchy if the violence against leaders continues.
“We have now begun our final descent into anarchy as a country; let us not pretend,” Matiang’i said.
At the same time, he alleged that the state is accessing social media accounts of opposition leaders.
Matiang’i claimed the state has acquired technology resources from an Asian country to gain access to the social media accounts.
“The government has now decided, in addition to terrorizing opposition leaders; they have begun a new wave of digital terrorism against the opposition.
“They have required resources from groups in an Asian country, and they are accessing social media accounts of opposition leaders,” Matiang’i alleged.
The Jubilee Deputy Party Leader also claimed that opposition leaders are being trailed by vehicles equipped with signal jammers during rallies.
“These days we get trailed by vehicles I believe belong to the state with jammers. We stop to address rallies, but our WIFI is interfered with; you cannot communicate,” he stated.
