police in Samburu

Mbeere North Member of Parliament, Leo Wamuthende, has called on politicians to avoid politicizing the death of two people who were shot and killed by police during protests over the poor state of Ishiara Level 4 Hospital in Embu County.

According to reports, the deceased, identified as Njue and Kariuki, were among the residents who took to the streets to express their concern over the poor services and state of the hospital.

Police who were dispatched to restore normalcy opened fire and shot two people.

The two men died on the spot, and their bodies were moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other procedures.

Their families called for the arrest of the police officers who were involved in the fatal shooting.

On April 18, 2026, MP Leo said that the two police officers who were involved in the shooting are known.

He affirmed that they were going to ensure that the suspects are dealt with in accordance with the law.

“The two policemen are known, Kiriongi and Mumo, they are known by the public. So involving President William Ruto, CS Ruku, and me is very absurd. We are going to ensure that we get justice for the deceased and also ensure that they get a befitting send-off,” Leo Wamuthende said.
