Thousands of foreign workers in the United States, including many Kenyans, face uncertainty after President Donald Trump’s administration announced a fresh review of all existing visas. The move targets more than 55 million visa holders and has already raised concerns about job security, travel freedom, and possible deportations.

The State Department confirmed that the review will check for overstays, criminal activity, and other violations. Officials noted that visas could be revoked if the holder is found ineligible under new screening standards. This has created fear among immigrants who rely on their visas for work and business in the US.

Kenyans are among those likely to be affected. Many travel to America for studies, jobs, or trade opportunities. For businesspeople and politicians who move frequently between Nairobi and US cities, a cancelled visa could disrupt important ventures. Even professionals in stable employment now worry that their legal stay may suddenly end.

The development comes at a time when the Trump government has increased restrictions on immigration. Earlier in the week, more than 6,000 student visas were revoked over alleged overstays and security concerns. Reports also indicated that students who took part in protests against the Gaza war risked losing their status, with some accused of supporting banned groups.

Work visas have also come under attack. The administration recently suspended new permits for foreign truck drivers, saying the decision was necessary to protect American jobs and improve public safety. The order was announced by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and took effect immediately.
