On Friday afternoon, there was drama along Thika Road when a group of angry youths from Githurai clashed with police officers.
The officers had blocked the busy road that leads to Kasarani Stadium ahead of the CHAN games where Kenya was set to play against Madagascar.
The sudden closure caused heavy traffic, leaving many motorists stranded and frustrated.
In a video shared online, the youths can be seen confronting the officers with anger, demanding that the road be reopened.
Despite the officers’ efforts to calm them down, the situation quickly got out of hand. Some of the young men were seen removing the barriers while others shouted at the police.
According to witnesses, the crowd was determined to ensure vehicles heading to Kasarani were not stopped from reaching the stadium.
The tension became worse when the officers realized they could not contain the crowd. In a dramatic turn of events, the police were forced to retreat. They were seen rushing back to their vehicles and driving away quickly as the angry youths chased after them.
After the police left, the youths went ahead to open the blocked road. They cleared the barriers and directed the stranded vehicles to pass.
Several cars were later seen moving towards Kasarani, with fans cheering as they finally continued their journey to the stadium.
