Former Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa has delivered a firm message to Kilifi residents as political activity gradually intensifies ahead of Kenya’s 2027 general election, urging voters not to allow financial inducements to determine their political choices.
Addressing a gathering of supporters, Jumwa claimed that some of her political rivals were attempting to use their financial strength to intimidate her and influence the electorate. However, she maintained that such tactics would not discourage her from pursuing her political ambitions or advocating for the interests of Kilifi residents.
“They are scaring me with money,” Jumwa told the crowd, expressing confidence that financial power would not determine the outcome of future political contests.
She encouraged Kilifi voters to take lessons from the recent Ol Kalou by-election, where she said residents remained committed to their preferred political choices despite alleged attempts to influence them through financial incentives. Jumwa presented the contest as an example of how voters can prioritize leadership qualities and principles over short-term financial benefits.
“Let us follow the Ol Kalou example,” she said while calling on residents to remain united and firm when making electoral decisions.
Jumwa argued that meaningful political leadership should be measured by its ability to deliver development, improve people’s lives and respond effectively to the needs of communities. She stressed that temporary financial assistance offered during election periods should not outweigh the importance of choosing leaders capable of providing lasting solutions.
