Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are investigating a tragic incident in Vihiga County where a police officer fatally shot his colleague.
The event occurred on Thursday night at the Esirabe Fertilizer Depot in Luanda, where the two officers were stationed on duty.
According to a report by Royal Media radio Vuuka FM, an initial altercation between the two officers escalated into a physical confrontation. During the struggle, one officer drew his service firearm and shot the other, killing him instantly. The perpetrator immediately fled the scene following the shooting.
Local residents, alarmed by the sound of gunfire, rushed to the depot and discovered the lifeless body. They reported the incident to the authorities, who responded promptly by securing the scene.
The deceased’s body was moved to a mortuary awaiting post-mortem. The DCI has now taken over the investigations to establish the circumstances that led to this fatal confrontation.
This incident adds to a growing number of cases involving police officers turning against their peers. Security experts have raised concerns over the mental well-being of law enforcement personnel, pointing to increased stress levels and lack of psychological support as contributing factors.
