NAMU Supreme Shuttle Limited has suspended a driver and one of its vehicles after claims that it was used to transport people who caused chaos at a church service attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in Witima Othaya Nyeri County on Sunday January 25 2026

The transport sacco said the suspension took effect immediately and involves vehicle registration number KDR467N and the driver Paul Njoroge also known as Wanyambari who will remain off the road until the company completes its internal review

In a letter dated January 26 the sacco said the decision was made to protect its name as investigations continue into what happened at the Anglican Church of Kenya compoundWitnesses said a group arrived during the service and disrupted worship causing panic among congregants including women children and elderly members

Reports circulating online claim tear gas was released shots were fired and several people were injured as the crowd tried to escape

During the incident Gachagua’s vehicle was damaged and later set on fire while other cars in his convoy were also vandalized

The former Deputy President said the attack was planned and claimed it was supported by state agents a statement that has deepened political tensionHe accused senior figures of using police officers and hired groups to target him during the service

The National Police Service condemned the violence and said investigations are ongoing to identify all those responsibleInterior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen also promised action as leaders across the country called for accountability

Church leaders in Nyeri said the attack left worshippers traumatized and demanded respect for places of worship

Social media users quickly linked the suspended matatu to the group that arrived at the church leading to pressure on the sacco

Some commentators praised NAMU for acting fast to protect its reputation while others said the move raised more questions

The company said it does not support violence or political intimidation and will cooperate with authorities
