Notorious

Police officers based at Riruta Police Station in Dagoretti Sub-County have arrested a notorious suspect believed to be a major receiver of stolen mobile phones in Nairobi.

The suspect was apprehended on Tuesday, September 9, 2026, while officers were on routine patrol within the Kabiria area, which has in recent months reported an increase in cases of phone snatching and mugging.

According to a police report, officers intercepted the suspect after receiving intelligence from members of the public about his alleged involvement in the illegal phone trade.

Upon conducting a quick search, they recovered a cache of communication electronics and accessories suspected to have been stolen.

The recovered items include one iPhone 12 Pro, one iPhone 7, two Neon Ray Pro devices, one Tecno Pop 3, one HMD device, one Nokia TA-410, one Airtel F180, one Infinix device and one power bank.

Police believe the suspect has been operating a network that receives stolen phones, rebrands them and resells them to unsuspecting buyers within Nairobi and its environs.

The suspect was escorted to Riruta Police Station where he was placed in lawful custody pending processing and arraignment in court.

All recovered electronic items have been securely preserved as exhibits and will be used as evidence in court.

The National Police Service has urged members of the public whose phones were stolen within Kabiria and surrounding areas to visit Riruta Police Station to identify the recovered devices.

Meanwhile, the Service has urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious criminal activity within their neighbourhoods to the nearest police station or via emergency services through toll-free numbers 999, 911 or #FichuaKwaDCI on 0800 722 203, or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.
